See the World and Earn College Credit!

There’s more to an education than sitting in class, and if you want to go traveling to broaden your mind and to see more of the planet we live on, you can do so while still earning college credit. Though there are certainly study abroad programs that can help you, you can also piece together your own program. Start discussions with your college months before you hit the road, and you may be looking at an entire semester of credit as head off on your way!

Language Study

Language study is the traditional college credit that is offered when you head abroad. Of course, for this to be legitimate, you need to be going some place where you are immersed in your chosen language. While this may be a little daunting for people who have never lived somewhere where they don’t speak the dominant language, it can teach you the ins and outs of a new language in extraordinarily short order!

When you are looking for language credits, it is always better to live off of campus and away from others who speak your native language. While it can make the first few weeks rather startling and unsettling, you will see a marked increase in your ability in a very short amount of time.

Service

Many colleges welcome the idea of students who are earning college credits abroad through service. There are a number of volunteer services that are dedicated to improving the condition of people in various countries, and when you sign up with one of them, you can initiate talks with your college to look into sociology credits, international study credits, or ethics credits, among others.

Consider the work that you are going to be doing. In some cases, you will be working with children and providing educational assistance, or you might simply be doing labor and building homes or facilities. No matter what you are doing, you will learning, and once you can make the college see that, you will be earning credits as well.

Online Courses

If there are classes you need to take, consider online coursework. More and more professors are offering online class options to their students now. You can learn without being in a lecture hall, and you can take advantage of high speed internet connections to watch lectures as they happen. You can access all the information that you need on the Internet, which means you could be fulfilling math requirements while you're sipping coffee on the Spanish coast.

Online courses give you an excellent opportunity to keep up with your coursework while you are on the go. As long as the area where you are going has a good Internet connection, you can pull in the same information as you would if you were sitting at home. Remember to talk to the professor and to let him or her know about your circumstances; you never know when being abroad can net you some extra credit!

Many people want to travel, and if you have the opportunity to do so, you should leap on it. Traveling broadens your mind, and you’ll discover that it can enhance your education experience as well!

Travelling By Car: Drive Your Way to Fun

Drive Your Way to Fun

Drive Your Way to Fun

In today’s economy, many people are foregoing the family vacation because it’s simply not within their budget to purchase multiple airline tickets. If you are thinking of giving up the annual family holiday, why not consider driving instead of flying? Driving to your destination offers many benefits that you’ll never receive while flying. Here are five great reasons to drive this summer.

Bonding Time

There’s no better way to bond as a family than on a road trip. From playing silly games to singing corny songs, a road trip offers a variety of opportunities to have fun and enjoy each other in a way that your daily lives don’t often allow. Try to use your time in the car constructively! Instead of blasting the radio and drowning each other out, turn the radio off and have an actual conversation. You may be surprised at what you can learn about each other when there are no distractions.

Faster Traveling

People don’t often stop to consider that traveling by car can often be faster than traveling by plane. Take into account the amount of time you will spend driving to the airport, waiting to board your plane and waiting to deplane. You may find that it’s actually faster to get in the car and drive to your destination, especially if you’re traveling a relatively short distance.

No Baggage Check

Did you know that many airlines are charging a fee to check in even a single bag? If you’ll be traveling with multiple suitcases, it may be more convenient for you to drive. Consider the time you will save by not having to wait in line to check your baggage, and consider the extra money you’ll have in your pocket once you’ve reached your destination!

You Can Take the Pets

Most people who fly board their pets in a kennel for the duration of their trip. Driving allows you to take every member of your family along for the ride, including those with four legs. More hotels are allowing pets every day, making it convenient to bring them along instead of leaving them behind. Your pets are members of your family; why shouldn’t they be able to enjoy a vacation with you?

See More of the Country

Any fan of road trips knows that the best way to see the country is through the car window. There’s no doubt that looking down at the earth from the sky is an experience to be had, but actually seeing our beautiful nation is another thing altogether. If you plan your route carefully, you’ll be able to drive past dozens of things that you’ve never had a chance to see before.

Don’t give up the family vacation this year because you think it’s out of your budget. Gas may be expensive, but filling the tank is cheaper than buying a plane ticket! If you do choose to drive, do it safely. Update your GPS before you leave so that you’re always sure of where you are, and pull over or stop for the night if you get tired.

Driving to your destination will give you time to bond as a family, eliminate the hassles associated with air travel and even allow you to take your pets along. If you’re planning a family vacation this year, consider driving to your destination. You may be surprised at how much fun you have!

Make Your Wedding More Fun – Have it on an Island!

Tropical Beach Wedding

If the idea of having your wedding at a traditional venue like a church doesn't appeal to you, there are plenty of other options out there. When it comes to having an exciting, unique and unforgettable wedding, a tropical beach ceremony in an exotic location is the way to go!

There are many benefits to having a tropical beach wedding; the setting alone is reason enough for most people. In addition, a tropical beach wedding can often end up being cheaper and less of a hassle than a standard ‘church and banquet hall’ wedding.

It's as Fun for Your Guests as it is for You

When attending a wedding, most people sit through the ceremony in anticipation of the reception. And, let’s face it: a lot of people look at going to a wedding as a hassle. With a tropical beach wedding, though, your guests will have a blast from beginning to end. After all, what's not to like about spending time on the beach in an exotic locale? You get married and your guests get to go on vacation. Everyone wins!

It's Cheaper than You May Think

It's easy to assume that a tropical beach wedding is going to be exorbitantly expensive, but that's not necessarily true. In fact, it's easier to plan an affordable wedding when you hightail it to an exotic island or another beach destination. You'll have to splurge on plane tickets, but the cost of flying pales in comparison to the high costs that go along with a traditional wedding and reception. You can have your ceremony on the beach, and have a simple reception right on the beach.

You can Limit the Number of Guests that You Invite

When you plan a traditional wedding, you feel obligated to invite everyone you know. When you invite everyone you know, your wedding costs skyrockets! People are a lot more understanding about missing out on an invitation when you have a destination wedding. After all, these types of ceremonies are usually quite intimate.

It's Easier to Plan

If you'd like to avoid being transformed into a harried bride, you should consider exchanging vows on a beach. For many people, the craziness of planning a traditional wedding is all part of the fun. If you'd rather take a less stressful approach, you can't go wrong with a tropical beach wedding. By its very nature, a beach wedding is casual and laid-back. Your mood will be a lot lighter and happier while planning the wedding.

Enjoy an Amazing Destination

One of the best things about a beach wedding is that you don't have to rush away to enjoy your honeymoon. You'll already be on vacation!

If you do choose a beach wedding, here are some great places to look into:
Hawaii, Sanibel Island in Southwest Florida, Coronado California (just outside of San Diego), Jamaica, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, Costa Rica, The Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands.

The Art Galleries of Lahaina Hawaii

The Art Galleries of Lahaina

Though the island of Maui is typically associated with the sand, surf, and sea, and sightings of whales and dolphins, the towns on the island are also brimming with something else wonderful to visitors. Visiting the towns can be a great addition to the Utopian natural surroundings of the island, and a walk around them gives you more a deeper appreciation the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the island.

art galleries maui The Art Galleries of Lahaina Hawaii

One of the well-known destinations in Maui is Lahaina, the biggest CDP (census-designated place) on the island. Located in the western part of Maui, it’s only a few minutes away from the other popular beach resorts of Kapalua and Kaanapli.

While the town is in no way comparable to popular urban American tourist destinations like New York or San Francisco, its rich in history is evident in its museums and the massive banyan tree growths. The streets of Lahaina are a creative hub and host a wide variety of art galleries.

For any inexperienced or first-time Lanai traveler, the Lahaina Arts Society is always a good start. It has two galleries within the area: Old Jail Gallery and Banyan Tree Gallery. The pieces displayed in these galleries—usually paintings and postcards—are the creations of its more than 180 members, who regularly put on shows that are open to the public.

art galleries maui hawaii The Art Galleries of Lahaina Hawaii

The markets of Maui normally sell typical island gifts, including local or native jewelry, but for a more refined shopping experience, one can proceed to Sargent’s, which also features art created by its 60 regular contributing artists. Aside from the painting, they also feature and sell jewelry pieces that speak of authentic Hawaii culture. The gallery can also lead you to the Front Street and to the open sea wall.

Having opened in 1970, Village Gallery is one of the oldest, if not the first, galleries to appear in Maui. Like the rest of the galleries, it has its own set of local and international artists, but the rich history its accumulated through its longevity make it one of the must-visit galleries on the island.

The Martin Laurence Galleries is famous for its modern art, including pop art and kinetic sculptures.  In addition, the gallery also organizes auctions of some of fine Hawaiian art pieces.

The Maui Hands is a celebration of the island’s artistry and ingenuity. This four-location gallery carries the work of more than 300 artists, and all items inside are Maui made.  It displays a wide range of art products, including pots, sculptures, paintings, postcards, woodwork, and jewelry pieces. Travelers can also buy souvenirs for their home such as bath accessories, baskets, lamps, and kitchen supplies.

For all of the galleries above, you can check their schedules to see if they’re holding any special shows or exhibitions while you’re visiting the island. In addition, you won’t want to miss the art night in Lahaina, which happens every Friday, from 7:00 p.m. all the way to 10:00 p.m. During art night most of the galleries, especially the ones in Front Street, open their doors to the public, and everyone enjoys a few hours of chit-chat, music, food, and celebration of the arts.

With crisp, clean air, gorgeous ocean views and some of the best dining options in the country, it's no wonder why so many Boston residents end up moving up to Portland to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Benefits of Custom T-Shirts When Traveling

custom tshirt printing The Benefits of Custom T Shirts When Traveling

Traveling in a group has a great many benefits; it's easier to feel safe in groups, you can score many discounts with your larger numbers, and you build up a great sense of camaraderie. When you're out of your element, it's a good idea to have someone that you can turn to when situations get a little sticky. And, when you're part of a group whose main goal is to stick together in a foreign area, you're going to want to employ every resource that you can to make this happen. A good place to start is with custom apparel such as T-Shirts; this is a great way to stick together and avoid losing anybody in the shuffle.

Group Unity

A great reason to purchase custom-made shirts for a group is to promote that togetherness and camaraderie. While you're abroad, you're bound to feel a little homesick along the way. A group shirt is something that reminds you that you're not only part of a team, but also that you've got lots of friends along with you from home to support you.

Shirt Material

Depending on the climate of the area to which you're traveling, you might want to consider investing in shirts that are either heavier or lighter, material-wise. If you're headed to a place that's going to be more subjected to the elements, then perhaps you want a more heavy-duty tee. If it's going to be very hot, then a lighter material that breathes might be the better option.

Bright Colors

When considering the color of shirt, you're probably going to want to stick with something on the brighter side. This way, the shirt serves its logical purpose, which is making sure that nobody gets lost. Many things can be done with a white shirt to make it look snazzy, and that's usually the standard for this type of project. You also want to have fun and make a splash in your new country, so fun neon colors are cool as well. Subdued blues and reds also certainly work if you're going someplace that's not too crowded, and you don't need to worry as much about picking your members out of a crowd.

Design Your Logo

If you're part of a business group or an organization, then you probably already have a logo. But even if this is not the case, you might want to consider coming up with a nifty little logo to put on the shirts. Graphic design programs such as Photoshop and various share or freeware programs online can help you out with this sort of thing. As far as ideas for the logo go; ask your group-mates. Perhaps you might like to come up with a common interest and build your logo off of that. Otherwise, think about the reason you're taking the trip and build an idea from this reason. It may seem daunting, but these programs, along with various internet sites, have lots of free clip-art images that you can use for a foundation for these logos.

Custom group shirts are not only practical, but they also prove to be a fun little souvenir at the end of any trip. You can continue to wear it beyond the vacation and remember the good times that you had.

Roadside Attractions for Your Summer Road Trip

Roadside Attractions for Your Summer Road Trip

guest post pic 2 300x224 Roadside Attractions for Your Summer Road TripWhen you’re driving along the highway or even on an unpopulated road during vacation, you tend to see many road side offerings. Often times, it is someone trying to sell items to those passing by, maybe from the back of a pickup truck or a small stand they’ve built.

Truthfully, you can receive many bargains when buying from these road side stands which every driver will see at least once in their life.

Produce Stands:

Produce stands are one of the most common road side offerings. Whether it is on a main highway, or on the side of a road in a small town, you can pretty much find them anywhere.

These produce stands usually sell the fruits and vegetables that are in season and often times, you can buy their produce items for a cheaper price than you would at the grocery store or a normal produce store.

guest post pic 1 300x194 Roadside Attractions for Your Summer Road Trip

Most produce stands sell products that they have grown themselves or get them from a farm so that they are fresh. There are no preservatives or harmful chemicals used to grow them or keep them fresh, so these road side stands are best to buy from if you like to cook with fruits and vegetables a lot, or if you prefer organic foods.

Carpet & Blanket Sales:

Mainly on the weekends, you will see people selling carpets and blankets at the corner of popular intersections. This road side offering is great for those who are trying to furnish their home or for people that just need a new carpet or blanket to use within their household.

Often times, they will have special deals on their items. They may have a sale going on that are buy one, get one half off or possibly even buy one, get one free. The items that they sell are usually a significant amount cheaper than the carpets or blanket sold in department stores.

These stands have a variety of themed carpets such as, animals, a playboy bunny, different prints, and geometric designs. The best time to look for these stands are on the weekend because it is very rare to find them out on display during the week due to the fact that most people are at work, so they don’t receive as much business.

Newspaper Sales:

Newspaper sales are also another road side offering, however they are usually only out on Sundays because the Sunday paper is usually the most popular paper of the week. This is very convenient for those of us who do not receive paper delivery or for people who like to read a different Sunday paper than the one they already receive at home.

This is also convenient for people that have the hobby of couponing because the paper that those people receive only has one set of advertisements and coupon books in them. Therefore, if they wish to have more of those coupons, they can go buy another paper from the road side that has more of the coupons they wish to use.

Road Side Attractions:

There are several other road side offerings and attractions such as boiled peanuts stands and cheap car washes that are being run by students to raise funds for a school event or school supplies.

There are also road side attractions that are fun for individuals, couples, or families. In the south there are areas that have alligator farms, monkey farms, horse farms, and other fun attractions that anyone can enjoy.

So, next time you and your family are on vacation, stop at these road side offerings. You can find great bargains on souvenirs and you never know what fun stuff you may find.
